Why It’s Easier Learning Spanish for Kids
By Dave Kettner

Learning a new language can be difficult for anyone, and is no exception. It is interesting to note, however, that learning for kids is much easier. It’s a simple fact that children have a much easier time learning any new language.

It is believed that this is because they have not yet developed the barriers to learning that we tend to develop as adults. It is said that children under the age of six have the easiest time leaning new languages; but in general, it is simpler for anyone under the age of 12 to learn a new language than it is for adults.

Learning Spanish, for kids, is an entirely different process than it is for adults. Kids tend to approach the process of learning a new language with more exuberance than adults do, and with an openness that allows them to grasp the finer nuances of the language with greater ease. This is why, in city playgrounds and parks, you hear all of the children, regardless of nationality, laughing and playing as though they understand each other. The simple fact of the matter is – they do!

Fortunately, even as adults, we can take our cue from our children and have a much easier time learning Spanish. For kids, this process is mainly a matter of immersing themselves in the language. Adults can also use this trick to learn a new language quickly.

Complete Immersion

Immersing yourself in the language is the best way for adults to go about learning Spanish. For kids, this is simply a matter of surrounding themselves with their playmates who speak Spanish. As adults, we may need to look a little harder to find people to surround ourselves with that speak the language. One of the easiest ways to find people that speak who will be willing to teach you, is to find a class that teaches English as a second language. In these classes, you will find a number of speaking adults who will be more than happy to help you learn their language.

Another way to immerse yourself in the language, is to take an extended vacation to a speaking country. If you are surrounded by native speakers, you will have no choice but to begin learning Spanish. For kids, this process is not actually necessary, because they do not have the difficulty leaning new languages that we as adults do. Taking an extended vacation to a speaking country is definitely the easiest way for anyone to begin learning Spanish.
